Two distinct customer and visitor amenities unique to Steelyard Commons, the Steel Heritage Exhibit and Steel Mill Playground, will attract varying ages and interests.

Small in stature in comparison to the tandem finishing mill buildings, but historic in character, an early 1900’s red brick building has been relocated on the site to become the home for a new Steel Heritage Exhibit. In its new location, adjacent to the Towpath Trail and the planned Scenic Valley Railroad stop, the Steel Heritage Exhibit will be a focal point within a well defined public space. Current plans for the Steel Heritage Exhibit include offering information regarding the many diverse activities and features available to visitors within the industrial valley and surrounding neighborhoods as well as offering a glimpse into the process of steel making and the history of the area.

Initially conceptualized as part of The Western Reserve Historical Society’s design for Cleveland’s Steel Museum, the Steel Mill Playground includes modern, safe playground equipment and matting in the motif of a blast furnace steel mill redesigned as an outdoor playground for children. The Steel Mill Playground is designed for children and parents to enjoy and is conveniently located near shops, restaurants, the Towpath Trail and the planned stop for the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad, which will be a feature attraction seen within the context of the operating steel mill to the east.
